Confused, Mickey then jumps into the TV, where he has to get his paint brush back. Gus is able to contact Mickey using Mickey's television and tells Mickey in a very panicked voice that there is trouble in Wasteland. Becoming suspicious that the Mad Doctor is not keeping his part of the bargain, Gremlin Gus, Oswald's friend and adviser, and Ortensia, Oswald's girlfriend, decide to contact Mickey Mouse, who saved Wasteland in the first game, to ask for his help. However, not long after accepting the Mad Doctor's help, Wasteland begins to suffer even more damage than before. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, Oswald agrees. He claims to have realized the error of his ways and offers to work with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and the other residents of Wasteland to repair the damage recently caused by earthquakes in order to make amends. The Mad Doctor, whom Mickey defeated in the first game, mysteriously returns to the Wasteland, despite having been supposedly blown up in the first game. The game is set some time after the original Epic Mickey.

"The intuition and skill that makes Jim Dooley one of the industry’s top musical talents is represented in Disney Epic Mickey. "Jim Dooley perfectly understood the concept of classic Disney sound and was able to compose a slightly off-center feel to match the unique world of Wasteland in Disney Epic Mickey," Junction Point general manager and creative director Warren Spector said in a press release. While some tracks are played from specific encounters or boss fights, others are played during Mickey's stay in a level. The tracks are based around two things, events and locations. With this, each track successfully invokes a different emotion while still giving the same musical feel one would get from the classical Disney animations. Jim Dooley was simply told to bring the feeling of "classic" Disney to life.
